How it works

Seven steps to the destination port

Clearly organised, so you always know what happens next.

  1. YouSend your request
Fill in the request form: route, container, cargo and your contact details.
  2. Kambi CargoReceive your quote
You receive a personal quote by email, usually within 1–2 working days. Because freight rates change, each quote is valid for a limited time.
  3. YouBook and pay
You confirm the quote and pay 100% in advance by bank transfer. Then we make the firm booking with the shipping line.
  4. TogetherPrepare the documents
You send us the documents (see the list below). If you booked our customs service, we file the export declaration with customs about one week before departure.
  5. YouLoad the container
The empty container arrives on your preferred date. You load it and secure the cargo. Usually about 2 hours of loading time are included. Then it is sealed, collected, weighed and taken to the port.
  6. Shipping lineShipping
Your container goes on the ship. Depending on the destination, the sea voyage usually takes about 3 to 6 weeks. You receive the bill of lading and the expected arrival date.
  7. ReceiverArrival at the destination port
The receiver handles import customs, pays import duties, taxes and port charges in the destination country, and collects the container. Kambi Cargo is not responsible for this part.

Documents we need

  • A copy of your ID card or passport
  • Packing list: what’s in the container, with quantities and approximate weight (we give you a template)
  • Name, address and phone number of the receiver in the destination country
  • For vehicles: original registration certificate part II (Fahrzeugbrief), part I (Fahrzeugschein), purchase contract or invoice, deregistration certificate if available
  • For commercial shipments: commercial invoice and the sender’s EORI number
  • For some destination countries: a cargo tracking note (ECTN/BESC), for example for Togo, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon or the Congo. Please check yourself whether your destination requires one. Applying for it and paying for it is the customer’s responsibility.

When loading

You load the container yourself and secure the cargo well (straps, wooden beams, blankets) so nothing moves at sea. Vehicles: tank almost empty, battery disconnected, no leaks. Weights in your request are estimates; the weight measured before shipping is what counts.
